We at Posterfix do not condone Racism, nor do we propagate the attitudes and sentiments of Racists of any kind. We do feel, however that history is something to be learned from. In presenting these Minstrel and Black Entertainment posters, which often show unflattering views of the African-American, we hope to put this kind of media in historical perspective. The Civil Rights movement in America has done much to shed light on that which we take for granted--the power that mass media has to both reflect and shape attitudes and values of the society. The posters presented are advertisements for several 'Minstrel Show' Venues, circa 1900 to 1930. They are all very scarce lithographs, but have been kept in good condition. All have been Linen Backed and some are available for purchase. Click here for an interesting history of the minstrel show. |
